Note to Self: Tea
Today was kind of a recovery day. We needed one. Spencer was very, very sick yesterday and Lucy was somewhat sick also. Spencer had a particularly virulent stomach bug that left him lying limply in bed all day, except when he was in the bathroom hurling. We left him and Lucy at home while we went to church. (Not because we’re heartless—it’s just that our presence wouldn’t have really helped them in any way.)
On the way home from church, we stopped to get some Gatorade and some activated charcoal capsules, because I couldn’t find the ones I know I have! I gave the Gatorade to Spencer and some vitamin water to Lucy. Then Mercy offered to take us all out to Panda Express for lunch. Well, all of us that weren’t sick, obviously.
I know that most of you who read this eat out regularly, but for us it is a huge treat and a very rare one too. So we greatly enjoyed our meal and our chopsticks and just being together eating food that I did not have to cook!
One encouraging thing that happened yesterday was that I found out that a former classmate of mine has read my book and really enjoyed it. Her comments were so kind and really lifted my spirits at a time when I needed it badly. And to put the icing on the cake, so to speak, she left a glowing review on Lulu also!
Poor Spencer continued to suffer throughout the day, rarely leaving his bed. He finally got up for a couple of hours in the evening, but still wasn’t able to eat anything.
This morning, however, things were looking up. Spencer was hungry, and when I made him a hot breakfast he was able to eat it and keep it down. Lucy felt much better also. I spent the morning doing vocabulary chores and then after lunch I took Lucy to her 4H meeting. The speakers today were a couple of paramedics who then took the kids on a tour of their ambulance. I have had a couple of ambulance rides in the past and had no desire to see the inside of an ambulance again so I stayed inside with my knitting!
Next Lucy and I went to the mall so that she could spend a gift card and I could drool over various items in the kitchen store. She was very happy with her purchases! By the time she was done, though, I found that I really wasn’t feeling well. I didn’t think I was coming down with Spencer’s stomach bug, but still I felt really awful. I couldn’t wait to get home so I could lie down. I felt exhausted, lightheaded, and a little nauseated.
It wasn’t till I was lying down feeling sorry for myself that it hit me. I hadn’t had a single cup of tea today. Duh! I went completely caffeine-free for a few years, but after reading so many articles extolling the virtues of tea, I have gone back to having one (large) mug of “real” tea per day, and also two or three cups of decaf. I normally have my regular cup of tea with my lunch, but today I just completely forgot, and by late afternoon my body let me know! I’m seriously thinking about programming an alarm into my phone which will remind me to have my daily mug of tea!
We finished of the day with an evening run to Walmart with Spencer and Mercy, followed by Mercy doing some driving practice on the way home and then an episode of Voyager. Maybe tomorrow I can get something done on my alarmingly long to-do list before we go to the zoo!
